Reigning New York City marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei won the London marathon race held today in London, England.
The former world half marathon record holder won her second World Marathon Major after the 2019 New York City Marathon.
She won the title in 2:17.43 ahead of Ethiopians Degitu Azimeraw and Ashete Bekera who were second and third respectively in 2:17.50 and 2:18:18 for second and third respectively as defending champion, who recently won silver at the Olympic Games in marathon Brigid Kosgei returning 4th in 2:18.40.
The win was good for Kenyan women runners who have dominated since 2011, winning every year except for 2015.
In men, Kenya’s Vincent Kipchumba retained his second position after losing to Ethiopian Sisay Lemma, with Ethiopians dominating the race.
The Nandi based Kipchumba finished second in 2:04.28 after Lemma had won the title in 2:04.01 with another Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew coming third in 2:04:41 followed by Valencia marathon champion Evans Chebet in 2:05:43 in 4th.
