Kenya Premier league (KPL) side Chemelil Sugar defeated Cambridge Universal College (CUSCO) in a friendly match played on Monday at the Chemelil Sports Complex.
Selassie Otieno converted the penalty, which was the only goal that sugar millers needed to win against visiting Cusco that plays at North Rift Branch league.
With Cusco unbeaten in the league, travelled to Chemelil to test their ability with big boys as they prepare for promotion next season.
According to team manager Robert Akama, said they are trusting in God that their talents will count in future and yield more and more fruits.
“My focus is to make a very good and competitive football club in the country,” said Akama.
The team which is 100% made up of students from the college Akama is positive that after completing school, they’ll try to secure for them jobs since a footballer can mostly retire and 35 years and there’s life after football, need to raise their families and connect them to big clubs such that they will showcase their talents more.
“As much as we lost, we even went beyond in terms of ball possession we will above them. Our target is playing KPL and the friendly match is like a dream come true now that we are playing in the branch league. We want to give my boys exposure to big games and testing our players to a better future,” added Akama.
According to Akama, Chemelil’s coach Francis Baraza confirmed that the near future , Cusco will be a good team to watch.
“I remember him saying he has never played a strong and a complete team like Cusco from Eldoret,” confirmed Akama.
