Chemining, Ekiru, Malala, Abunda top national championships at Ulinzi

Bangsaen 10km champion Loice Chmining, Mary Nyaruai Ekiru were the winners in day one of the Athletics Kenya National track and field championships at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Nairobi.

At the same time, Olympic 800m champion Mary Moraa shone in their respective races ahead of tomorrow’s finals.

Moraa won in 2:10.62 ahead of Judy Kemunto (2:10.96) and Maureen Chepkirui at 2:11.34

The Kenya defence Forces runner Mary Ekiru Nyaruai successfully defended her 1500m title in 4:09.68, beating Teresia Muthoni Gateri (4:10.10), with Vivian Kiprotich (4:11.30) close behind in third.

The Kenya Prisons Chemining clocked 31:39.09 to win the women’s 10,000m ahead of KDF Cintia Chepngeno (32:22.44) followed by Rebecca Mwangi in 32:22.85.

In the field events, Dominic Abunda won the hammer throw title at 61.51m to retain his national title beating Adelbert Museveni (56.15m) and Denis Sakwa (53.17m).

George Malala won the men’s shot at 16.44m followd by Benson Wachira (15.95m) and former national champion Peter Mwangi took third in 15.47m.

Sarah Okumu won the women’s shot put in 15.34m ahead of Belinda Oburu (15.15m) and Njau Ruguru (14.56m).
