Ugandan Violah Chemos and Moi Girls’ Kapsowar half marathon champion James Kipkoech were the champions of the inaugural Kaptagat Forest Run.
Kipkkoech, who last month won the Moi Kapsowar Girls half marathon, won the men’s 21km race ahead of Patrick Musin, Joshua Kithuku. Kipkoech won the race in 59:55.5 with Musin coming second at 60:15.3 with Joshua Kithuku completing the podium at 60:21.7.
In women, seasoned Chemos from Uganda who trains in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County edged out other season marathoners led by former Frankfurt marathon champion Valary Aiyabei jemeli.
Chemos, who missed a chance to represent her country at the Olympic Games in Paris Olympics managed to win the race after stopping the timer at 69:23.8 followed by Violah Chemoha at 69:55.0 and Jemeli completing the podium at 69:564.
