Fresh from winning Hamburg marathon, the former World Cross country champion Irene Chepet Cheptai will be competing at the Boson 10km and Peachtree 10km ahead of her next marathon.
The Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medalist will be returning into the former short races in the 10km with Boston set for June 23rd and Peachtree on July 4th in the USA.
“This time I want to try in the 10km race though it has a different taste not like the marathon. I have been there and I want to use the two races as part of my preparations for the next marathon,” said Cheptai.
“Right now, I am training for the 10kms which has a different program unlike in marathons,’” she said.
On April 29th, Cheptai won the 42km distance on her first attempt as she focus to compete in major marathons.
“I was very happy for the win and I want this to be my stepping stone to major races,” said Cheptai.
The 2008 world junior cross country silver medalist won the Hamburg marathon when she clocked 2:18.21 as her personal best ahead of compatriot Winfridah Moset (2:18.24) and Ethiopian Gotytom Gebreslase completing the podium at 2:21.18.
