Cherono, Wanyonyi and Moraa win at Rabat Diamond League

Former Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Mercy Cherono, reigning world under 20 00m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and world under 18 400m silver medalist Mary Moraa won in their respective races at the Rabat Diamond League held today evening in Morocco.

Cherono won the 3,000m title in 8:40.29 ahead of Amy-Eloise Markovc (8:40.32) and Medina Elsa completing the podium in 8:41.42 with another Kenyan Gloria Kite coming in 4th position at 8:41.81.

Wanyoyni, who won the Ostrava Golden Spike last week, continued with his superlative form to win the 800m race in 1:45.47 beating Nijel Amos to second in 1:45.66 and Gabriel Tual in third at 1:45.71.

Other Kenyans led by Olympic Games 800m champion Emmanuel Korir (1:46.93) was in 8th position and Micahel Saruni (1:47.60) and ferguson Rotich (1:47.72) were in 9th and 10th potions respectively.

Returning into action, former Olympic Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto was a distance 4th in the 3,000m steeplechase race.

Kipruto, who has been included in the Africa championships team following the exit of Abraham Kibiwott timed 8:12.47 in a race won by Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkal in 7:58.28 while he was running at home followed by Lachema Girma (7:59.74) and Hailemariyam tegegn (8;06.29).

Moraa beat Prudence Sekgodiso from South Africa to win in a personal best of 1:58.93, beating her previous time of 1:59.25 from last year in a sweet revenge.

The win propelled her to attain the World Championships qualifying time as Sekgodiso came second in 1:59.23 followed by Renelle Lamote in 1:59.83.
