Maureen Cherotich and Samuel Chebolei were crowned the junior champions at the Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships cum national trials ahead of Africa Cross country championships in Lome, Togo held today at the Ngong Racecourse.
The South Rift Cherotich defeated her counterpart Edinah Jebitok to win the women’s Under-20 6km, which was a replica of what happened at the South Rift regional championships four weeks ago.
Cherotich clocked 20:14.9 ahead of Jebitok who was in second in 20:24.8 as Agnes Chebet completed the podium in 20:35.4.
It was good for Chebolei who retained his title in men’s Under-20 8km title after edging out North Rift’s Jacob Krop.
Chebolei won in 24:09.0 ahead of Krop’s 24:14.7 with Shadrack Kipchirchir from Central digging in for third place in 24:22.8.
