Kibiwott Kandie and Sheila Chelagat won the national Athletics Kenya Cross Country Championships cum trials for Africa Cross country championships held at the Ngong Racecourse.
The Kenya Defence Forces runner ended the 17-year long wait to give soldiers the first win from Kenya Police Service after stunning three-time world half-marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor.
Kandie won in 29:57.7 with Kamoror coming second in 30:05.5 as Central Rift’s Nicholas Kimeli was third in 30:12.0.
Chelangat led Kenya police to win the women’s 10km title in 34:34.9 ahead of Stacy Ndiwa of Kenya Police in second in 34:40.4 as Joyce Chepkemoi clocked 34:48.8 for third place as Immaculate Anyango from South Rift came in fourth in 34:58.3 before reigning world cross country junior winner Beatrice Chebet was 5th in 35:00.1.
