Discovery Cross country champion Daisy cherotich and Pater Ndwiga were crowned the champions in 5,000m and 10,000m respectively at the second leg of Athletics Kenya Track & Field Weekend Meet at Kasarani stadium.
Coming from Nandi County, Cherotich stunned national cross country champion Sheila Chepkrui for the title in the preparations for the Olympic Games set for July in Tokyo, Japan.
After finishing second at the national cross country championships last month behind champion Chepkirui, Cherotich clocked 15:26.7 with Chepkirui returning second (15:29.8) and world cross country junior champion Beatrice Mutai completing the podium in 15:30.6.
In men’s 10,000m, Ndwiga stunned Africa cross country silver medalist Alfred Barkach for the title in 28:42.7 and Barkach was second in 28:43.1 with Alexander Mutiso completing the podium timing 28:50.0
