Former world under 20 1,500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot, Nelly Chepchirchir and reigning Olympics Games 3,000m steeplechase bronze medalist Faith Cherotich recorded victories at the Doha Diamond League held today in Qatar.
Competing in the last event of the championships, Cherotich won the 3,000m steeplechase title in a world-leading time of 9:05.08 after edging out World and Olympic champion Winfred Yavi 9:05.26 as Ethiopia’s Sembo Almayew was third in 9:09.27.
Cheruiyot won the 5,000m title in 13:16.40 ahead of Swizerland’s Dominic Lokinyomo and Lobalu in 13:17.70 with Bahranian Birhanu Balew was third at 13:17.70.
In the 1,500m women race, Chepchirchir won the title in 4:05.00 followed by compatriot Susan Ejore coming second.
Double Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal was third in the men’s 800m in a race won by World and Olympic finalist Tshepiso Masalela from Botswana in 1:43.11 ahead of American Bryce Hoppel and Kinyamal third at 1:43.37.
