Cheruto, Kimitei, Korir top Kigali International marathons

Isgah Cheruto, Edna Jerono Kimitei, Alfred Kipkemboi and Gideon Kibii dominated the Kigali International Peace Marathon ran on Sunday in Kigali, Rwanda.

Cheruto won the women’s 42km race with Kimitei finishing third in women’s half marathon as Kipkemboi was 6th in men’s marathon and Kibii in 15th position at the men’s half marathon.

In women’s marathon, Cheruto won the title in 2:51.43 beating Ethiopian Meseret Gebre in 2:54.21 and Teweldebrhan Lemlem completing the top position in 2:57.10.

In men’s marathon, kipkemboi was kenya’s top finisher in the 6th position in a race won Kidie Derseh in 2:23.29 ahead of Afewerki Hidru Berhane in 2:23.31 and Meseret Bekebo completing the podium in 2:23.33.

Making her debut in half marathon, Kimitei finished in third position timing 79:49 with Marthe Yankurije winning the title in 75:07 with Adeline Musabyeyezi in second timing 76:28. Another Kenyan Scholastica Jepkemboi coming in 5th position timing 87:12.  

In men’s half marathon, Kenyans Shardack Kimining Korir and Joel Maina Mwangi were in second and third positions in a race won by Yven Nimubona.

Running on home soil, Nimubona won in 63:38 with Korir coming second clocking 63:48 and Mwangi in 64:36.
