Esther Chumo recorded mixed results to win the 36 holes Kenya Seed Golf Tournament title played on nine-hole Eldoret golf club.
The former lady captain of the club recorded 80 nett in the two-day tournament that came to an end on Sunday 24th.
On her way to victory, Chumo fired two blanks in each round with five rare birdies to win the title.
With the first round, where golfers had to endure rain and cold weather on a course, fired 38 nett to finish 6th with Elgeyo Marakwet County speaker Philemon Sabulei taking the lead ‘order’ with 42 nett.
She had five pars, dropped two, and dropped one before shooting a blank in. in the inward nine, she recorded back to back pars in one, two and three pars 5, 3 and 4, dropped a shot in 4, before she fired a blank in 5th par 4. The bad omen followed her when she dropped two in six, dropped one in 7 and recovered with pars in 8 and 9 in the first nine.
On the outward nine, she returned with a bogey in 10th but recovered in time with a birdie in 11th par 3, parred in 12th, 13th and 24th bogeyed on 16th par 3, before concluding with levels in 17th and 18th.
In the second round on Saturday, she fired two birdies in 7th and 9th in the first with six pars in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 before dropping one in 8th and recorded another blank in 14th but birdied in 16th after she had pars in 11, 12, 13, 15, and 17 with a bogey in 10th and 18th.
“The tournament was good, well organized with playable greens. We are working on first and second greens and once we are done, the course will be the best in the region,” about the tournament, it has been a journey but I have achieved it well with a deserving win in such big tournament of 36 holes yet we are used to 18,” said Chumo.
Nandi Bears golfer Chemutai, who had finished 3rd in round one, improved to second in round two with 78 nett followed by round one leader Philemon Sabulei on 76 nett.
