Sebastian Coe, the World Athletics presidenthas high hopes that the World Athletics Under-20 Championship will be so thrilling.
The Kasarani stadium showdown that starts on 17th to 22nd August, Coe said the junior championship plays an integral role in the growth of athletics by providing a launchpad for young athletes to grow their careers at an international stage.
“I genuinely believe this championship will be spectacular and will unearth a well of talent. If you think about those who have come through the youth and junior championships, most of them are here (Tokyo) winning medals,” Coe said.
The president further gave a thumbs up to the preparations for the August 17-22 event, noting the concerted efforts of all stakeholders to make it a reality.
“I want to thank the government of Kenya and the Sports Minister Amina Mohamed who we have worked closely with as well as President Uhuru Kenyatta who is so passionate about athletics. Not forgetting Jackson Tuwei (Athletics Kenya president) who is a close friend of mine. All of us, including the headquarter team and the health science department have been determined to have this championship,” the four-time Olympic gold medalist said.
