Commonwealth Games: Celliphine Chespol wins third silver

Team Kenya at the Commonwealth Games lost the fourth title they won last at the Glasgow, Scotland four years ago in women’s 3,000m steeplechase.

Today defending champion Purity Cherotich Kirui failed to defend her title as 2015 World Youth Champion Celliphine Chepteek Chespol lost the 3,000m steeplechase to Jamaican Aisha Praught to take silver.

Chespol won the third silver for Kenya timing 9:22.61, the 2016 world Junior champion was the favourite winner but Praught out sprinted her to win Jamaican first Water and barriers title clocking 9:21.00.

Defending champion Kirui faded to take bronze in 9:25.74 as Kenya team lost her fourth title they won four years ago namely women’s 3,000m steepelchase, 10,000m men, 5,000m women and 1,500m women.

Fancy Cherono came home sixth in a new Personal Best time of 9:46.27 with the two medals now add Kenya’s tally at the games to five with Edward Zakayo (5,000m bronze), Beatrice Chepkoech (1500m silver) and Samuel Gathimba (20km walk bronze).
