Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) has named four women boxers to represent the country at the forthcoming Commonwealth games to be staged in Gold Coast, Australia from April 4th to 15th.
The Hit Squad consists of Veronica Mbithe (Flyweight), Lorna Kusa (Welterweight), Christine Ongare (Light Flyweight) and Elizabeth Andiego in middleweight categories. The four were selected after representing Kenya at the India Boxing Open Championships.
The four joins their ten men counterparts who were selected last month. The men’s squad include light flyweight Shaffi Bakari (Police), flyweight Mohamed Ali (kongowea, Mombasa), bantamweight Benson Gicharu (Police) and lightweight Nick Okoth (KDF), welterweight Jacob Kimathi (Prison), middleweight Edwin Okongo (KDF), light heavyweight Nick Abaka (KDF), heavyweight Elly Ajowi (Police) and super heavyweight Fredrick Ramogi (KDF).
The Kenyan pugilists were humiliated in India, with none returning home with a medal from the event.
