Shaffi Hassan Bakari and Edwin Okong’o won in the various categories on day three of Commonwealth Games going on in Gold Coast, Australia.
Competing in Flyweight Bakari won against Namibia’s Matias Hamunyela 3-2 while middleweight Okong’o restored confidence following the exit of Elly Ajowi Oxenford Studios by beating Tanzanian Selemani Kidunda 3-2.
Tomorrow, bantamweight Benson Gicharu enters the ring against England’s Peter McGrail in the round of 16 from 7.02pm.
It was good for Eunice Mbugua who qualified into for a quarter-finals of Lawn Bowls competition at the Broadbeach Bowls Club.
Mbugua remained upbeat on Friday after winning her third round match of the women’s singles’ section ‘C’ against Nelly Senna of Botswana 21-10.
Maria Brunlehner and Emily Muteti finished sixth and eight, respectively in swimming in 50m freestyle at the Optus Aquatic Centre.
Khaaliqa Nimji dropped to the women’s singles Plate round of 16 where she defeated Fiji’s Alison Mua 3-0 (11-7, 11-2, 11-5).
