Kenyan Cooperates on Wednesday morning boosted Safaricom’s Sports Personality of the Year Award (SOYA) with as three companies contributed kshs 3 million towards the January 20th event at carnivore ground.
National Social Security Fund (NSSF) donated kshs 1,00,000, Kenya Tourist Board (KTB) gave kshs 1.5 million and Velvet Ventures gave out kshs. 500,000 towards the 13th edition of the mother of all sports awards in the country to culminate the 2016 best performers’ awards.
Addressing the media during the awarding ceremony, NSSF’s acting Managing Trustee Dr. Christopher Khisa pointed out that many Kenyans fear venturing into new sports as there if great potential of exploitation.
But with such fears, Khisa took time to encourages young sports personalities to venture out with confidence knowing that they can make it, Khisa said.
“As young people in the country, I want to let you know that young people can do better in the country if they try different sporting discipline and will make them grow talent-wise,” said Khisa.
KTB’s head of Cooperate Mwausi Walya applauded the spirited Kenyan sportsmen and women for flying Kenyan flag high and branding the country in a better way away from the country.
“Every time the country wins, we get to see our hoisting of our national flag and hear the tune of our national anthem, symbols that identify us as a people who rule the sporting field especially in the athletics arena and
this rekindles the Kenyan spirit to do great and excel through sports,” she said.
