Cranes chasing Elgon Cup after seven years

Uganda will be chasing their first ever Elgon Cup title since 2012 when they host Kenya Simbas, the national rugby 15s in the return fixture in one of the oldest rugby tournament in East Africa this weekend in Uganda at kyadondo Rugby Club.

Under the care of assistant coach Albertus Albertus Van Buuren, the team lost the opening leg 16-13 to Uganda Cranes three weeks ago in Kisumu’s Mamboleo Showground, the first win in five years.

Kenya will be seeking to set a sweet revenge against their neighbours and retain the trophy

Head coach Paul Odera is with the junior team in Brazil for the Rugby world under 20 championships.

But women side, the Kenya Lionesses carry a 31 point lead over their Ugandans counterparts. They beat Cranes ladies 44-13 in the opening leg under the tutelage of Felix Oloo.
