CS Amina receives Interim Report by FKF Transition Committee

Cabinet Secretary for sports Dr Amina Mohamed has on Monday received an interim report from the Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee led by outgoing chairman and retired judge Justice Aaron Ringera at Kasarani stadium.

The CS lauded the team for laying in place a concrete foundation and well-structured policies geared towards restoring order and promoting growth and development of Kenyan football.

“This work you have done is a turning point to the success of our football. Initially there were reports of conflict of interest between clubs, branches and the Kandanda House based federation something you’ve done well in putting in place measures that would iron it out. Even though we will treat this as an interim report, it will form the basis of the final detailed document which will move us to next level of football administration in Kenya,” affirmed the CS.

Justice (Rtd) Ringera, who is exiting because of other related-government commitments highlighted the achievements attained by the committee including training of referees and delivery of FKF Constitution, which was validated by delegates on 11 June during the General Assembly at Kasarani stadium.

“Match officials including referees were paid in time despite earlier impediments of them having given wrong accounts which was eventually sorted. We have delivered FKF constitution which will guide running of football operations in the country. This document will shape Kenyan soccer through  providing  a roadmap towards elections to get new officials at the helm of the federation” noted Ringera.

Sports CS Amina Mohamed via Gazette notice dated 16 June extended the mandate of Committee which had ended on 14 June for the next two months

She reiterated her confidence in the team which will see Maj General (Rtd) Maurice Oyugi replaces Justice (Rtd) Ringera as the new chairman to be deputised by former Kenya Rugby Union chairman Mwangi Muthee.

“I have worked with Justice Ringera for many years and he’s a man of integrity who has done extremely well in his previous capacities. I thank him for sacrificing his time and valuable knowledge to help us put things in order. Despite his non-football background, he did well to get us the new constitution which would be key in our bid to streamline  operations, promote accountability and transparency, end corruption and ensure compliance with the rule of law,” she noted.

The Transition Committee came into office on May 13, replacing the FKF Caretaker Committee, which had been at the helm for six months since Mohamed disbanded the Nick Mwendwa-led federation last November. This was after an audit report revealed massive financial misappropriation at the federation.
