Former world cross country junior bronze medalist Cynthia Jerop made her maiden successful marathon during last weekend’s Standard Chartered marathon finishing second in 42km.
Jerop, the reigning Hannover half marathon ran her personal best in 2:34.12 as she sets her focus to compete at the Kass marathon set for November 18th in Eldoret.
Kass marathon, which was a goose that lays golden eggs in the region returns after one year break and will cut across two counties of Nandi and Uasin Gishu who are christened as Source and City of champions respectively.
After missing Kisii half marathon title in August said she will be competing in 10km distance away from her famous 21km and 42km race.
“I just ran well in Standard Chartered and I can’t manage to run 42km within such short period. I really wanted to compete in 42km but I can’t,” said Jerop.
The kapsabet runner won the inaugural Kaptagat Forest Half marathon before winning the Chemususu 10km in Baringo a week after.
“I have had a good season and I have to utilize this time. I have been running well all through but this is my year because my career is at its best,” said the former East Africa 5,000m under 19 champion.
Coached by her husband Stephen Kimaiyo was full of training as she plans to enter into big marathons. Early this year, she finished 6th at the Berlin half marathon.
“When I finished in such position, I was disappointed by I motivated myself ahead of other races and now I am shining in almost every race I compete. Since finishing 6th in Berlin, I have not missed any podium positions and that is good results for any athlete across the world,” added Jerop.
“The race is competed at home and it will be bad for me not to run on home soil,” concluded Jerop
