Making their debut in half marathon, Daniel Kipchumba and Daisy Cherotich won the Nexia Audirevi Lake Maggiore half marathon with course records on Sunday.
In men’s race, Kipchumba led Mangata Ndiwa and Josphat Boit to take three top positions all finishing inside 59:20, the fastest timing ever ran on the course that stood at 60:00.
Kipchumba who paced for Erick Kiptanui to win Berlin marathon with a leading time of 58:42 a fortnight ago, won the Lake Maggiore 21km distance in 59:06,shading off 54 seconds from the previous record.
Ndiwa, who returns into international competitions after suffering an injury was second on 59:07 before Boit completing the podium in 59:19.
In women’s race, Daisy Cherotich won the race in 1-2 kenyan podium finish. Making her debut in half marathon, Cherotich won in 69:44 ahead of Leonidah Jemwetich Mosop (70:26) and Sweden’s Charlotta Fougbergh in third position clocking 71:58.
