Dominance Saints: Kitale and Iten take charge of Rift Valley school games

St Patrick’s Iten and St Anthony’s High School Kitale reigned supreme in the opening day of Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSA) regional games that got underway in Eldoret.

2019 rugby 15s finalists Iten defeated St Anthony Kitale 12-3 with head coach Bernard Indasi started off on a high, scoring the opening try within the first five minutes of the match.

Indasi blamed the performance on minor mistakes which he assured to correct in their next pool match.

In other rugby matches, Kapsabet Boys defaeted Kilgoris 36-6 as Nanyuki beat Ngong Township 7-5 while Longisa High beat Kipsombe 13-0.

In hockey boys, national champions St. Anthony’s Kitale humiliated Nakuru’s Ndururumo 6-0 in pool C with  Victor Sirengo bagging a hattrick.

Sirengo opened the score for Kevin Lugalia coached side in the 6th minute before doubling the score in the 34th minute. Gideon Kosgei scored the thoirf goal in the 38th minute before Sirengo sealed the hatrick in the 50th minute for 4-0 lead as Peter Rono bagged in succession bagged a brace in the 57th and 59th minute for a 6-0 win.

Lugalia said that they are taking each game as it comes because they are not aware on how their opponents had planned.

“For us, we want to play a good game and take on the opponent the way they have come. Our target is to play at the nationals,” said Lugalia.

In other hockey matches, Emining Boys won and lost a match. The Eliakim Sadalla beat Ortum Boys 2-1 before losing the second match to Kapsabet Boys 1-0.

Brian ngugi and Ryan Kimeli were on target for Emining in the 2-1 victory with Joseph Kirwa scoring the consolation for Ortum in A matches.

In hockey girls, Nandi’s Tachasis beat West Pokot’s Tartar girls 1-0 with the only goal scored by Risper Cherotich in pool C as Afraha played to a barren draw against Masai girls.

In basketball boys, Turkana’s Leo were 51-39 winners against Samburu’s Good Shephered while kakuma girls of Turkana and West Pokot’s Nasokol were 58-17 and 42-26 winners against Toniok (Baringo) and Samburu’s Irene respectively.

In handball girls, Uasin Gishu’s Cheptigit lost 11-14 to baringo’s Kiptuno in pool A with Biwott Day beating Ndururumo 11-6 in pool B while Naskol were 31-10 winners over Naiwatorong in pool C and Sosiot lost 7-11 to Chebitoik in D.

In handball boys Trans Nzoi’a Nabunga beat Kimuron 26-16 as Naiwatorong were 9-7 winners against Kericho’s Londiani in pool B with Nakuru’s Murundiko beating Naiwatorong 31-10 and Kajiado’s Aiyam were 26-19 winners over Emining in pool A.
