Double victory for Kiplagat, Kipngetich and Wanyonyi at WU20 pre-trials

Emmanuel Kiplagat, Sharon Kipngetich and Emmanuel Wanyonyi bagged double victories Athletics Kenya Central Rift World under 20 pre-trials held in Kapsabet, Nandi County.

Representing Baringo County, Kiplagat won 5,000m and 3,000m to book for national trials slated for July 1st and 2nd ahead of World under 20 championships set for August 17th to 22nd at the Kasarani stadium.

In his first race, Kiplagat defeated his opponents to win the 5,000m title in 14:12.1 beating Nandi’s Levi Kibet to second timing 14:13.0 before West Pokot’s Fredrick Tomon completing the podium in 14:18.34.

In 3,000m race, he led a 1-2 podium finish for Baringo based team under coach Barnabas Kitilit. Kiplagat crossed the finish line in 8:14.3 ahead of compatriot Gilbert Kiprotich (8:15.1) and Frankline Kiptoo (8:23.8) in third.

Running for Uasin Gishu, Kipngetich bagged a double in 400m hurdles and 800m ahead of national trials.

In the opening race, she clocked 67:22 for the hurdles ahead of Brenda Chebichii (71:08) and Sheila Kiptum (71:14), all representing Nandi County. She clocked 2:12.33 for 800m ahead Nandi’s Gladys Chepchumba (2:19.78) and Judy Jerop’s 2:26.61 from Baringo.

Wanyonyi, was the surprise winner in the 400m as well as 200m men.

In other races, Baringo’s Brenda Chepchumba , a form two student at Kimwogo Secondary School won the 5,000m title in 16:19.7 ahead of Nandi’s Zenah Jeptoo (16:21.4) and Debra Jemutai in 16:33.8.

In the 1,500m race, Winnie Jemutai won in 4:29.3 ahead of Daisilah Jerono who clocked 4:30.1 while Naomi Kemboi for third position in 4:32.5.
