The reigning world half marathon silver medalist Daniel Ebenyo Simiu and upstart Viola Chepng’eno were the winners of today’s Athletics Kenya cross country title held in Bomet County.
Ebenyo won the men’s race in 32:25.29 ahead of Edwin Bett (32:33.73) and Peter Tuitoek who completed the podium at 32:54.05.
In women, Chepng’eno won the title in 37:06.68 beating Sandrafelis Chebet and Joyline Cherotich to second and third in 37:30.15 and 37:40.25 respectively.
Florence Chepkoech and Emmanuel Lemiso were the junior winners in women and men respectively.
Chepkoech cut the tape at 21:48.8 ahead of Alice Chemutai and Cynthia Chepkirui in 21:51.5 and 21”59.4.
Lemiso was victorious in men’s under 20 after crossing the finish line in 26:17.26 ahead of Clinton Kimutai (26:30.57) and Brian Kiptoo’s 26”30.86.
Naomi Korir and Reynold Cheruiyot were 2km loop champions. Korir won the women’s title, just like she did in Iten at 6:07.92 beating Nelly Chepchirchir and Lilian Odira to second and third at 6:11.02 and 6:18.50 respectively.
Cheruiyot clocked 5:26.34 to win the men’s title with Patrick Rotich and Vincent Keter for second and third positions in 5:30.28 and 5:30.48.
