Edna Kiplagat aiming 4th medal at World championships

Edna Kiplagat will be targeting her third title at the forthcoming IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar set for next month.

The double World Marathon champion says her preparations are on top gear after she missed the title in 2017 losing to Kenyan born Bahrain international Rose Chelimo.

After jetting into the country from America where her family was awarded Green Card, the former Boston Marathon champion said that it was a great opportunity to represent the country again for the coveted championships.

“It is always a dream for an athlete to represent his or her nation and for now, I feel great for the opportunity to fly the Kenyan flag at the championships, which is a good thing for me,” said Kiplagat during the Anti-doping seminar in Eldoret.

The former New York marathon champion, coached by her husband Gilbert Koech, won her first title at the 2011 championships in Daegu and became the first woman to defend the title in 2013 Moscow

The two time London marathon champion will be competing for the fourth time at the World Championships for the fourth time as she will be partnering with former Paris Marathon champion Visiline Jepkesho, Two-time Istanbul Marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich and Sally Chepyego.

Following her long stay in the USA after she finished second at Boston marathon she disputed rumours that she has changed her citizenship.

“I have started my training since I jetted back to Kenya from America, there is nothing to worry now because I have just started my training and hope it will be ok by the time we reach the day of competition,” said Kiplagat.
