Andrew Owili defeated veteran journalist Gilbert Wandera to win the Chess Kenya presidential position following July 4th elections.
After long court battles, the CK finally held their elections with Kisumu based Owili claiming the top position, replacing Bernard Wanjala at the helm of the federation.
Leading the Team Promise, Owili garnered 67 votes against Wandera’s 13 with Kevin Wachuri earning zero votes.
Eldoret based Faith Letting will deputize Owili
Before taking the top position, he was the vice president for the federation in the last four years under Wanjala.
Anthony Kionga was elected Secretary General with 65 votes edging out Evelyn wanjiru’s 16 while Alexander Wright will serve as the deputy Secretary General.
After serving for two term as the president, Wanjala was elected the federation’s Treasurer and will be deputyzed by Rodah Olisa.
