Edwin Kiptoo in maiden win at KPA tournament in Eldoret

Mombasa golfer Edwin Kiptoo won the maiden Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) golf tournament played at the nine hole Eldoret golf club on Saturday.

Kiptoo managed to score 43 stable ford points to record his maiden win in the career edging out 149 golfers who teed off on Saturday morning.

His two birdies at the inward nine in 12th and 14th powered to the top with several pars in 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th, dropped a shots in several holes.

He said that he enjoyed the tournament and had no idea on how he became a winner, his first ever.

“The course is really taken care of and that provided easy way for me to play well. I have been doing a lot of practice at my home club and Nyali 4 to 5 times a week which constantly made me improve over and over. It feels so good being my first win since I started golfing career last year August . I got my handicap in May this year,” said Kiptoo.

KPA managing Director William Ruto said that being the first time in Eldoret in the rotational circuits, after Kakamega, Nakuru, Muthaiga and Nyali, they value relationships with business partners and customers.

“Since you are our business partners, we have resolved to make our Port operations to match international maritime standards by embracing advance payment systems,” said Ruto.

“This is a game where you play against the course. No wonder the addiction. It is the only game that you can play and, in the process, switch off your mind from the game, discuss business and go back to play. This unique attribute is what attracts the corporate world towards sponsoring a golf event. Golf enables the involved parties to mix business with pleasure in the field as they tee off,” he said.
