Eight Kenyan professional golfers will lead the country at next month’s magical Kenya Open Golf Championships following the conclusion of Safari Tour Golf series on Wednesday at the Muthaiga Golf club.
Series leader Robson Chinhoi will miss the MKO that tees off on 9th March to 12th March at the Muthaiga Golf club attracting world leading professional golfers.
Kenya will be led by top Kenyan Greg Snow (Muthaiga), Samuel Njoroge (Kenya Railways), Dismas Indiza (Mumias), Daniel nduva (Nyali), Simon Ngige (Great Rift), Mutahi Kibugu (Muthaiga), Jastas Madoya (Great Rift), and Mike Kisia (Vet lab).
Snow, who did not win any event managed to score 236 points, Njoroge with 217, followed by Indiza on 184, Ngige 179, Kibugu managed 169, with Madoya, Nduva and Kisia scoring 159, 141 and 114 points respectively.
While making the announcements after Muthaiga leg, the Kenya Open Director Patrick Obath said that the series will include non East Africa countries in count down to 2024 MKO.
“We have to expand our target beyond the region and have as many golfers possible competing in our series,” said Obath.
The eight pros will be joined by six amateurs who diminated the Kenya Amateurs Golf Championships (KAGC) series. The six are the Kenya Amateur match play champion Dennis Maara, from Limuru, Kenya Railways John Lejrima, the Kenya Strike Play champion and series winner, Nyali’s Adel Balala, Kenya railways Jay Sandu, Muthaiga’s Njoroge Kibugu and compatriot Daniel Kiragu.
Njoroge won the second last event at the Karen leg a week ago to increase his chances for the MKO next month. Nduva managed to win one of the six meetings across the region.
“We want to expand our net to countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Rwanda mong others,” he said.
This comes at a time when Zimbabwean Robson Chinhoi missed the opportunity to play at the MKO despite leading the Safari Tour series that culminated in Muthaiga on Wednesday evening.
