Eliud Kipchoge to defend London marathon title

Reigning Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will be defending Virgin London marathon title set for April 28th in England.

The world marathon record holder broke the 42km distance on 16th September during Berlin marathon will be seeking a back to back London marathon title after race organisers named him in the star-studded line0up.

With his world record at 2:01.39, Kipchoge at 34 won his third London marathon title last year timing 2:04:17 after he was unbeaten in three appearances in London, having notched victories in 2015 and 2016 as well. He also set the course record of 2:03:05 in that 2016 race.

His main opponent will be Chicago marathon champion and home boy Mo Farah (2:05:11) in his first major marathon victory after he finished third in London in 2:06:21.

Another runner in Ethiopia’s Shura Kitata Tola who also returns after finishing runner-up to Kipchoge last year and placing second in the 2018 New York City Marathon.
