Faith Cherotich wins gold with World Championships record in Tokyo

Faith Cherotich won the 3,000m steeplechase title with the championships record at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

The 21 year old improved from her bronze medal won in Budapest two years ago to win gold after timing 8:51.59 which was a championships record after stunning then defending champion Kenyan-born turned Bahraini Winfred Yavi at 8:56.46 as Ethiopian Sembo Almayew scooped bronze in 8:58.86.

The former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion won Kenya her 4th gold medal to stay second on the table with a silver and a bronze behind the USA 10 medals: 7 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 Bronze.

She managed to stage  a sweet victory against Yavi who have gained rivalry on the track.
