Eldoret Falcons defeated the University of Eldoret (UoE) in an Eldoret derby in a Football kenya federation (FKF) Women Cup.
The UoE grounds proved to be a mountain to climb for home side after conceding 5-0 in a one sided match in the round of 32 where Rose Akinyi displayed her skills, scoring four goals.
With the victory, the Michael Wachira side Falcons will be waiting to know their opponent after the conclusion of other matches across the county.
Falcons Akinyi opened the score in the 4th minute before doubling in the 22nd minute as Venessa Opakas scored her first and third for Falcons in the 33rd minute then Akinyi hit the hattrick for for a 4-0 lead before sealing the victory in the 74th minute.
The winning head coach Wachira said they had to combat their opponents because they need to reach either the semifinals or finals in the Cup.
“We had a steady team that is determined to score that is why we prepared well for this game hoping to reach semifinals or even playing at the finals,” said wachira.
His counterpart Josphat Pilishi said that he lost to an experienced side.
“They beat us through experience and we have accepted the outcome. We need to beef up our squad,” he said.
