Feted Jerop, Kemboi to defend Kass marathon title

Long wait is over. The 2018 Kass marathon long wait for their prize finally came to an end today after they were paid.

Cynthia Jerop and Jackson Kemboi won the 2018 Kass Marathon and they pocketed kshs 1.5 million after five months of long wait.

Apart from receiving their cash prizes, they also confirmed that they will be defending their titles this year that will be ran on Sunday 17th November in Eldoret.

The race, which starts in Nandi county, ending in uasin Gishu county has produced top athletes across the country.

“This year, I will try to defend my title though the race is too competitive and on a tough course.  I want to train well in preparations for the race because it is one of the most competitive races in the country,” said Jerop.

Second placed Beatrice Chepkorir collected kshs 500,000 as former world half marathon record holder Peres Jepchirchir won kshs 250,000.

It was the fourth time that athletes from Kapngetuny in Elgeyo Marakwet county won the men’s race as Kemboi carried the title.

Training with top athletes like former world marathon record holder Wilsonn Kipsang at Volare Sports, Kemboi said: “I will be returning to defend my title. Through my discipline, I managed to win the title after a heavy battle.”

Silas Mwetich and Dennis Kiptoo were second and third positions respectively also pocking kshs 500,000 and kshs. 250,000.
