FIFA World cup trophy Tour: prestigious trophy lands in Kenya

It was pomp and colour as Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) world Cup trophy landed in the country today for the third time.

Despite Kenya missing out on 2018 FIFA world cup extravaganza finals set for Russia in June, but the trophy’s landing in Kenya was fanfare in the FIFA world cup trophy tour.

The prestigious trophy made its third landing to the country following its stops as part of the global tour ahead of the South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and now Russia in 2018.

Coke Cola branded plane landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the trophy received a rousing welcome by the government of Kenya and football fans.

Newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Heritage, Rashid Echesa was lucky to receive the trophy together with Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, officials from Football Kenya Federation of Kenya who had accompanied Russian ambassador to Kenya Alexander Makarenko.

Local football supporters will have an opportunity to witness the world’s most cherished prize in the game after the trophy is presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House in Nairobi.

This will pave way for a public viewing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The tour by Coca-Cola kicked off in September 2017 in Russia and will visit more than 50 countries across six continents, travelling 126,000 kilometres in the nine months leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
