International Swimming Federation (FINA) has banned Kenya indefinite from all swimming activities.
After serving two years of suspension, after failing to conduct elections within three years, the executive ratified the ban.
In a letter signed by FINA’S head of legal Loic Loutan and written to John Ohaga the head of the Sports Dispute Tribunal(SDT) the decision were as follows.
Kenya is not permitted to participate to FINA Congresses and other FINA non-sporting events.
Lautan wrote: “However, athletes from Kenyan Sport Nationality may continue to compete in FINA events or Fina sanctioned events, provided that they are registered on their own behalf and that they meet all other FINA Rules and requirements. Their international representation will be as International FINA Athletes” added Loutan
Loutan said in relation to the upcoming World championships slated for Budapest in next month two Kenyan swimmers Swaleh Taib and Luchia Ruchti have been entered for the event and will be the sole Kenyan athletes for the championship. They will therefore be the sole athletes from Kenyan Sport Nationality entitled to compete in Budapest as IFA, both accompanied with his/her respective team official.”
