Commonwealth Games 20km bronze medalist Samuel Gathimba and Emily Ngii earned Kenya two gold medals at the ongoing African Games men and women’s 20km race walk champions in Rabat, Morocco.
Gathimba beat Ethiopia’s Yohanis Algaw to win the men’s title 1:22.48, improving from silver in 2015 African Games in Brazzaville, Congo.
Algaw won silver in 1:22:50, as South Africa’s Wayne Snyman in 1:23:38 settled for bronze before Simon Wachira finished fourth in 1:24:40.
Gathimba finished third in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
In women’s race, Ngii won the title after she floored Grace Wanjiru to second place.
She won in 1:34:41 ahead of six-time Africa champion Wanjiru in 1:34:57. Yehualeye Beletew from Ethiopia took bronze in 1:35:21.
