Gene Queen’s celebrate their maiden NSL Women win against Kolwa Falcons

It was all celebrations at Uasin Gishu Primary school play ground when Gene Queen’s recorded their maiden victory in the National women’s super league match on Sunday.

Led by Captain Irine Yego, the Queens defeated Kolwa Falcons 2-0, expressing her delight after her side secured their first win.

Leading by example, Yego’s name was on the score-sheet after enjoying home advantage in the second tier women’s league in the country.

Expressing her joy after the match, Yego said that the season has been an uphill task to their team but they have managed to pick up something to smile about.

“Being selected today to lead the team is a great honour to me and I am very happy to have participated in our win,” she said.

“We are having high morale in training, my teammates are psyched up and this win is just an icing to the already confident squad, we are looking forward to better results,” she added.

Yego opened the scoring for her side in the 26th minute with a long strike before setting up teammate Dinah Nasimiyu for the second goal 10 minutes into the second half.

On the other hand, disappointed Kolwa falcons’ captain Ann Atieno called upon her teammates to be focused ahead of the second leg matches.

“Today we have lost due to petty mistakes that we made and led to us getting beaten, we can rectify them in training and stage better results,” she said.

With the victory, Queens sits sixth in the log with 3 points ahead of Kolwa Falcons who are yet to take home any point in women super league zone B league.

In other matches Eldoret Falcons suffered a 3-0 loss to Kisped away at Jomo Kenyatta stadium in Kisumu while Kitale’s Royal starlets triumph over Gideon’s starlets by 2-1.
