Gitau says KPC is ready to reclaim KVF title

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) head coach Paul Gitau has set his goal at reclaiming the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) national league title they last won in 2017.

Gitau said the new-look team is capable of going all the way and end their trophy drought and their win at the inaugural Eldoret City Open is a step in the right direction.

Pipeline are gearing up for this weekend’s Mosoriot, Nandi County leg of the KVF national league.

“We have been scouting for new talents especially from schools and we are now seeing results. The win here is good and we are hoping to surprise many when we compete in the KVF league this weekend,” said Gitau.

He added that  the girls played well, admitting that it has been a long journey because the girls who are playing now managed to move around schools and I wanted fresh talents.

“We managed to recruit the best players from schools since 2020 and now as part of our preparations ahead of the new season and having won in Mombasa and managed to beat Kenya Commercial Bank, we are on the right track,” added Gitau.

The Mombasa based team defeated Kenya Prison to win the inaugural Eldoret City Volleyball Open tournament on Sunday to pocket kshs 100,000.

The two day brought together 37 teams from Kenya and Uganda with top clubs in Kenya were four with KPC, Kenya Prison, Post Bank and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

With the tournament played in round robin, KPC and Kenya Prisons had won all their matches and the top two teams faced off with KPC winning in straight sets 25-21, 26-24 and 25-15.

In other women’s results, the champions won all their matches starting with 3-0 (25-19, 25-18 and 25-16) against Post Bank and 3-0 (25-17, 25-17 and 25-20 ) over KDF.

The finalists beat Post Bank 3-0 (25-14, 25-11 and 25-16) and KDF (27-25, 25-17 and 25-20) while KDF had on victory against Post Bank 3-0 (25-27, 15-25 and 23-25 with the bankers losing all their matches.
