Gitonga and Bett wins Longonot Mountain running titles

Ruth Gitonga and Timothy Kibet were the winners of the Longonot Mountain and Trail Challenge held today in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

 Gitonga won the women title in 13.5km in 1:14:50 ahead of Philaris Kisang who clocked 1:15:25 to second and third [position was won by Joyline Chepngeno in 1:16:45.

Making her debut in the motian running, Gitonga said that it was so motivating to compete and come home victorious.

“This is my first time to compete in the mountain running and coming as a winner is a motivation. I really wanted to try another level, after competing in the race and winning,” said Gitonga.

Kibet, who trains alongside Gitonga won the men’s title after stopping the timer at 1:02:04 followed by Saoli Selelo (1:04:05) and Ephantus Njeri at 1:04:06 for top three positions.

“The race was hard but I managed to come home to win since I was motivated to face my challenges. I used to compete in road races but I want more of mountain races to give us more challenges,” said Kibet.
