Double delight for Rosaline as Kenya bags five medals in Sweden.
Rosaline David and Kenneth Mburu Mungara won gold medals for Kenya at the ongoing World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.
David and Mburu won the women and men’s 10km Road Race yesterday at the Slottsskogen City Park in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Competing in the W45, David crossed the finish line with a championship record time of 35:08.
This was her second gold medal at the championships after winning her first gold in the women’s 5000m at the Ullevi Stadium last week.
She led compatriot Joan Chepchirchir Kigen to second after clocking 35:54 for silver.
Mburu from Murang’a county claimed the Men’s’ M50 10km Road Race at City Park with a championship record of 30:22, accelerating Team Kenya’s celebrations on a chilly Sunday evening.
Mburu led country mate Francis Bowen, who had won gold in men’s 5000M settled for silver medal in time of 31:27 while Frenchman Fredrick Gilbert finished third to complete the podium finish.
Samuel Ndereba finished second (3:17) in the men’s M45, winning another silver medal for Kenya which closed the day with five medals from the 10KM Road Race.
The remarkable results catapulted Kenya on the medal standings after amassing 18 medals, which includes four golds, nine silvers, and four bronze medals.
