Expert Michael Gongolo defeated defending champion and Grand Master Allan Oyende to win the Kisumu Scrabble Kenya edition that came to an end today.
The two day tournament that started yesterday, came to a close today with Gongolo winning 14 out of 18 matches, losing 4.
As part of the players’ preparations to qualify for the World English Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), Gongolo made his maiden victory for the season.
Former Ol Kalou champion started well with a win against Joshua Ogola, before losing the second game to Richard Okechi, beat Tony Ochola, lost to Obadia Arungo, beat Raphael Oduor, Onani Magwanga, lost to Grand Master Patrick Gitonga Nderitu, won against David Kimani, Wenwa Akinyi, Ian Oyoo, Allan Oyende, and willy Mwangi.
