Kenya team led by the reigning Wimbledon Junior doubles champion Angela Okutoyi bounced back to beat Morocco 2-1 in the opening match of the Billie Jean King Cup at the Nairobi Club today.
Okutoyi, who partnered with Cynthia Wanjala to win in 6-3 and 6-0 against to Morocco’s Aya El Aouni in the opening singles match.
Okutoyi leveled matters for Team Kenya by beating Malak El Alami 7-5 and 6-3 in an entertaining duel.
Okutoyi and Wanjala teamed up in the doubles to beat 6-4, 7-5 over Aya El Aouni and Yasmine Kabbaj.
Tennis Kenya (TK) President James Kenani hailed the performance but asked the players not to be complacent in subsequent matches.
