Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards to start continental shows away

Kenya football giants Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will start their continental championships away from their homes according to the preliminary fixture released by Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

The Wednesday draw, CAF drew Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Gor Mahia against debutantes Leones Vegetarianos Futbol Club from Equatorial Guinea in CAF champions.

 

Winners in the preliminary meeting they will play against the winner between ASAC Concorde of Mauritania and Tunisia’s Esperence. If K’Ogalo goes past the preliminary show and Esperence, the meeting will revive the 1987 Mandela Cup final that Gor won.

Gotv champions AFC Leopards will open the Confederation Cup away to FOSA Juniors FC from Madagascar where the winners will meet the winner between Mauritian side AS Port Louis and Ngazi Sport from Comoros.

 

Formed 17 years ago, Leones Vegetarianos will be making their first appearance in the CAF championships having secured their domestic league title at the end of the 2017 season.

Their only other major silverware came in 2014 when they won the Equatorial Guinea cup.

The first leg ties will be played on the weekend of February 9-11 while the return leg has been scheduled for a week later.
