World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge will be the star attraction at this Saturday’s Isaiah Kiplagat Memorial Ndalat Gaa Cross country championships in Nandi County on saturday.
After breaking the Sub-2 Hour mark in a marathon, Kipchoge who is the ambassador of the race will be in attendance according to Central Rift Athletics Kenya chairman Abraham Mutai.
“As the race ambassador, we are expecting him (Kipchoge) to offer advice to young athletes as you well know that Ndalat is all about discovering, nurturing and tapping young talents,” said Mutai.
Mutai added that they are expecting a large number of young athletes especially from schools who have been anchoring the race development.
But the focus will be on world cross country junior champion Beatrice Chebet will be fitting in her shoes of her elder sister Sandrafelis Chebet who won the 2018 title.
In absence Sandra, who will be chasing New Delhi Half marathon, Chebet from Lemotit Training camp will be at the starting line-up in the 10km senior women after graduating mid this year.
Chebet from Londian and head coach Paul Kemei won the 6km junior title last year will be trying to emulate her elder sister to compete in 10km senior women after graduating this year into the senior cadre.
Chebet, who featured un various Diamond League series, will be yearning to win her maiden title in the seniors.
Kemei said Chebet will fit well in the shoes of her sister on Saturday.
“She has been training well and we hope she will do well in senior races. She has done well in junior and we hope to replicate in the seniors,” said Kemei.
He added that he will be travelling with top runners for the event that includes Caren and Emily Chebet for 10km while 6km will be competed by Mercy Chepkorir, Deborah Chemutai, Sharon Chepkemei, Sharon Chepkurui and Ann Naasiho.
“I know the girls are in good shape and am optimistic that they will do well. Today we have done morning session of 10k,” added Kemei.
