The stage is set for an exciting semifinal showdown in the second edition of the Hopkins Super Cup 2026, currently underway at Sudi industrial Park and Kongoli Primary School grounds in Bungoma County.
After topping Pool A with seven points, holders Umri Bungoma have booked a semifinal clash against Daktari FC. Meanwhile, hosts Hopkins, who finished second in the same pool, will face Webuye Unfit.
The tournament, organized as part of the Easter holiday celebrations, has attracted strong local competition, with the overall winner set to walk away with KSh 50,000.
The action kicked off in thrilling fashion at Sudi Stadium, where Hopkins edged Kakamega 3-2 in a dramatic opener. Hopkins raced to a 3-0 lead in the first half but nearly let it slip as Kakamega mounted a second-half comeback, scoring twice to reduce the deficit before the final whistle.
Umri Bungoma began their campaign against Kisii with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. After a goalless first half, Kisii struck early in the second half, but Umri responded with two quick goals to secure maximum points.
They followed it up with an impressive 3-1 win over Kakamega despite playing back-to-back matches. Kakamega managed a consolation goal from the penalty spot after a handball, but Umri remained dominant.
Hopkins continued their strong run with a 2-1 victory over Kisii, while Kakamega also picked up a win against Kisii in another fixture.
With Kisii and Kakamega eliminated, attention turned to the battle for top spot in Pool A between Umri and Hopkins. The decisive match, played at Kongoli Primary School, lived up to its billing as a high-stakes Bungoma derby. Despite the intensity and emotion, the match ended in a goalless draw, allowing Umri to finish top of the group on goal advantage with 7 points apiece.
With the semifinals now confirmed, fans can expect more thrilling action as the tournament heads into its final stage.
