Basketball 3×3 finals also delivered thrilling contests as new champions were crowned in both categories at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championships that cocluded today at the Mpesa Foundation in Thika, Kiambu County.
In the girls’ competition, Ikutha Girls completed an impressive tournament by defeating Cheptil Secondary 11-4 in the final.
Ikutha had earlier edged St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale 16-12 in the semifinals before producing another disciplined defensive display to comfortably secure the national title.
Cheptil booked their place in the final with a 14-9 victory over Olympic High School but could not find a way past the composed Ikutha side
St. Joseph’s Girls claimed the bronze medal after defeating Olympic 14-11 in the third-place playoff.
The boys’ title went to Agoro Sare High School, who capped an outstanding tournament with a 15-13 victory over St. Mary’s School Yala in a closely fought final.
Agoro Sare had reached the championship match after overcoming Kaya Tiwi 21-15 in the semifinals, while St. Mary’s Yala edged defending champions St. Peter’s Mumias 10-9 to end the holders’ title defence
St. Peter’s Mumias recovered from that disappointment to secure third place with a convincing 21-9 victory over Kaya Tiwi.
