Kinale girls and Butula Boys defeated their opponents to claim the rugby 7s titles at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championships in Thika, Kiambu County.
Kinale successfully retained the girls’ title by beating Kimobo Girls 19-7 in the championship match.
Kinale edged Western Region champions Mbakalo Girls 12-10 while Kimobo reached the final after defeating Eastern Region champions St. Teresa 17-5 in the semifinals.
In the third-place playoff, Mbakalo finished the tournament on a high with a commanding 38-5 victory over St. Teresa.
Butula Boys stunned Nyanza champions Cardinal Otunga Mosocho 26-0 to lift the national title.
Butula beat former champions Laiser Hill before beating Bokoli Boys 14-12 in a closely contested semifinal.
