Impala Ladies dethrone Nakuru Ladies

With 41 points, Impala Ladies have dethrone Nakuru Ladies from the leaderboard of the Kenya Union Women’s Festival league.

Impala defeated Mwamba 15-05 to climb to the top at KCB Sports Ground on Sunday to better their chances of clinching the title in its second year running.

Nakuru will now remain in the second position with 36 points after losing to Mwamba in the semis while Homeboyz sits third with 34 points while Mwamba are fourth with 31 points.

Northern Suburbs, the hosts of the second leg, are fifth with 26 points, six more than Shamas. New comers Kisumu are tied with Comras on 14 points while Blad Babes from Kenyatta University prop the log with eight points.

On Sunday, Impala qualified for the finals after a dramatic drop kick shoot-out with the two sides tying 5-5 in regular time. Impala had four successful kicks to Homeboyz three with all ten players taking kicks. In the other semi, Mwamba needed drop kicks as well to see off first leg’s winners Nakuru. The Black Shirts kicking three of their five chances as Nakuru could only get two kicks over the bar.

New girls Kisumu registered their first ever win in their second outing beating Comras 7-0 in their 8/9 ranking match. This is an impressive feat considering that many teams take at least a season or more to register a maiden win.

The next leg will take place on March 3 at RFUEA Grounds and will be hosted by Stanbic Mwamba.
