Imperious Kundu keep Kibera strikers away

Harambee Starlets goalkeeper Annette Kundu was in her imperious form, saving many shots in the Kenya Women Premier (KWPL) encounter at The University of Eldoret Grounds.

It was a goalless draw as Eldoret Falcons battled Kibera Girls Soccer Academy as the KWPL enters the homestretch.

The shot-stopper, who was number one keeper for Starlets in the 2020 Olympic qualifier against Malawi saved three scoring chances for visiting Kibera as they shared points in a barren draw.

As Kundu was busy between the posts, another Starlets player Janet Moraa was a thorn in the defence of the opponents.

Despite Moraa’s numerous attempts on target, luck did not favour her as steady keeper Pauline Muthakye saved her shots.

As the teams failed to reach in the danger box, Moraa made her first shot on target in the 20th minute but Muthakye flagged the ball out for a corner but the response was fast with Stella Wanjiku shooting on target with Kundu making her first save.

in the 36th minute, Roselyne Kibore lost an open scoring chance for the hosts but returned two minutes later but her shot was saved.

In the 40th minute, Victoria Okwano was left one on one with Kundu after beating an offside trap as her right foot shot hit Kundu’s right hand for a corner.

Moraa missed an open scoring opportunity in the 43rd minute when her low shot hit already downed Muthakye. On the stroke of half time whistle, Wanjiku and Sentrine Nelima failed to convert open chances into break.

There were low strikes in the second half as Lantona Apondi first shot hit the crossbar after brushing Kundu’s fingertips.

Moraa then failed to convert two goals with open chances in the 79th and 81st minute before her shot hit the crossbar waking fans who had turned out in large numbers to cheer their home team.
