Impressive team Kenya retains Africa Region Four Golf Championships title in Ethiopia

Impressive Kenya team retained their title at the concluded Africa Region Four Golf Championships played at the Par 71 Addis Ababa Golf Club in Ethiopia.

Kenya team comprising of captain Dnnis Maara from Limuru, Kenya Amateur Golf championships (KAGC) series leader Michael Karang from Kiambu, reigning KAGC champion John lejirma of Kenya railways and youngster Elvis Muiua from Kiambu fired a total of three under par to complete the championships with (+12) 864 to retain the title they won last year in Uganda.

In the four day annual tournament that teed off on Wednesday, team Kenya rolled in two under par 210 to feed off rivals Uganda who managed 217 for a total of (+34) 886 followed by team Rwanda (+70) 922, hosts in 4th Ethiopia at (+72) 924 and Tanzania tailing at (+99) 951).

After trailing Uganda in the opening round on Wednesday, Kenya picked up the mantle in the second round on Thursday and Friday, opening the lead at the summit to glory.

In the absence of Burundi, who withdrew from the annual tournament, the five nations are playing stroke play because of the odd number of teams present.

Kenya’s Karanga remained the best Kenyan on the course by winning the individual title after firing four under 68 in the final round for a total of (-4) 280 to carry the flag in the four rounds.

In round one on Wednesday, Karanga fired level par 71 followed by one over par 72 and round three’s two under par 69 with final round’s -4 68.

Lejirma moved to the second position with (+1) 285 in 78, 67, 70 and 70 in the four round while Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga has been playing in the KAGC series and starts favourite in the third round of the 74-hole tournament.

Captain Maara moved two steps up to complete in position five 303 with Muigua concluding the championships with T9 308
