Iten and Kitale in a pool rematch at the rugby 15s RVSSSA finals

St Patrick’s Iten and St. Anthony’s Kitale will be facing off at the rugby 15s finals in a rematch of the pool matches as Rift valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) comes to an end on Saturday morning.

The the battle at wareng High school in Eldoret will be an all Saints between Trans Nzoia’s Kitale and Elgeyo Marakwet’s Iten will reignite their Wednesday memories when Iten beat Kitale 12-03.

As the only unbeaten school in the four day tournament Iten beat Uasin Gishu’s St Michael Kipsombe 18-5 to storm the finals to join Kitale who had earlier on beaten 15-05 in the first semifinal.

In handball girls’ Trans Nzoia’s St Joseph’s will be facing off Nakuru’s Murundiko High school at the finals set for Saturday morning in search of a single national slot that will be played at the same venue later this month. making their maiden appearance, Murundiko were 34-06 winners against Biwott Day from Elgeyo Marakwet.

At the semifinals, the Maurine Sitati coached side St Joseph’s narrowly defeated their nemesis Nasokol girls from West Pokot 29-23 to book for the final play.

In handball boys’ Nabunga will be facing off with West Pokot’s Kamito who beat reigning champions Saniak 27-20 at the semifinals.

Playing for the first at the finals, Nabunga’s coach Wesley Sanya said it will be exciting to face top teams in the region.

He said that the last time they reached this far was in 2011 when they lost at the semifinals but that they are prepared.

In hockey boys’, national and regional champions St Anthony’s Kitale from Trans Nzoia will be taking on Nandi’s Kapsabet Boys at the finals.

St Anthony’s who are also the bronze medalists at the FEASSSA have set their own not just retaining the regional title but the national one.

In the semis, they beat Kericho’s Kabianga 2-0 where Gideon Kosgey and Elija Kariuki scored a goal each in the 1st and 47th minute to seal the final slot for head coach Kevin Lugalia.

In the girls hockey semis, national champions Tachasis lost to newcomers St Joseph’s Kitale 3-1 through penalty flicks.

Following a one-all draw, Tachasis from Nandi County lost all flicks as Trans Nzoia’s scoring 2. Abigail Chepkemoi scored first for Tachasis in the 32nd minute but Daisy Kerubo scored in the 55th minute to force the game into flicks.

Kerubo convereted her flick and Tracy Korir to hand St Joseph’s the vital win.

Their opponents Kapsabet, whose principal Kipchumba Maiyo, the Kenya secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) chairman watched from the stands, defeated Baringo’s Boito 2-0 where Aaron Getakwa and Noah Ptoo were on target for the school.
